14 Arrested Over Edo Killings as Police Intensify Manhunt

At least 14 suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing of 16 hunters by a local vigilante group along the Uromi-Obajana Road in Edo State.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, strongly condemned the mob action and ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja.

Following the tragic incident, the Edo State Police Command swiftly deployed operatives to the affected community, restoring law and order. A police manhunt is also underway to apprehend other perpetrators involved in the attack.

In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said, “The IGP has directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), DIG Sadiq Abubakar, to take over the case and ensure a thorough, impartial, and expedited investigation. The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to upholding the rule of law and will not tolerate any form of unlawful killings or extrajudicial actions.”

The IGP further urged the public to remain calm and cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation. He emphasized that all individuals found culpable will face the full weight of the law.

While condemning the resort to jungle justice, the police also reiterated that the unlawful possession of firearms is a criminal offense under Nigerian law. Individuals in possession of unlicensed firearms have been advised to surrender them at the nearest police station or initiate the appropriate licensing process.

The Nigeria Police Force has also warned the public against taking the law into their own hands and encouraged citizens to report any suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities promptly.
