25-Year-Old Man Commits Suicide in Osun Over Economic Hardship

A 25-year-old man, Joseph Abodunrin, has died by suicide in the Dagbolu community of Osogbo Local Government Area, Osun State, after struggling with economic hardship.

Joseph, who recently celebrated his 25th birthday on February 6, 2025, had previously hinted at his struggles through social media posts, describing his siblings as his only source of strength.

His cousin, Abodunrin Grace, confirmed the tragic news on Thursday via her X handle, remembering him as a caring individual who hid his pain behind a smile.

In his final tweets on March 24, the day he took his life, Joseph apologized to those who cared about him, saying he “couldn’t do it anymore” and that no explanation would suffice. He also revealed that his passwords were on the first page of his diary before bidding farewell.

His earlier posts on March 9 expressed deep feelings of helplessness, questioning the purpose of life and lamenting unsuccessful attempts to seek help.

Despite sharing his planned location, ‘Dagbolu,’ for the act, his body had not been recovered at the time of this report, as the specified location was reportedly no longer accessible.

Family members and loved ones have since urged greater awareness of mental health struggles and the need for stronger support systems to prevent similar tragedies.
