Abia, Obasanjo foundation to provide 1,000 residents hearing aids

The Abia State government has announced plans to provide hearing aids to 1000 persons with hearing impairment in the state.

The Commissioner for Information in the state, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this while briefing journalists on this week’s state executive council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti on Monday.

He said the gesture was part of the state’s partnership with the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation to launch the Sound Intervention Hearing Mission 2025 in Abia.

Kanu revealed that former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Otti would unveil the program together with the formal health insurance scheme on April 2 in Umuahia, the state capital.

The Commissioner said the health insurance scheme is a broad initiative to enhance access to healthcare and improve the quality of life for vulnerable groups in the state.

Kanu added that Obasanjo will also inaugurate a 45-kilometre section of the Umuahia-Isuikwuato-Abiriba-Ohafia road was reconstructed by the state government.

He said, “The insurance scheme would mark a new era of proactive healthcare management in Abia. The initiative is a testament to Governor Otti’s commitment to inclusive governance.

“This programme will afford about 1,000 Abians with hearing impairments the opportunity to receive hearing aids. That will definitely improve their hearing abilities and their lives generally.”
