AIG emphasises strict supervision of DPOs, police special units at send-forth ceremony
The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 6 Headquarters, Calabar, Mustapha Bala has emphasised regular checks and supervision of Divisional Police Officers and tactical units of the police to ensure their activities comply with the rule of law.
AIG Bala, who is the immediate past Rivers State Commissioner of Police stated this during a special send forth in recognition of his contributions to the Command during his tenure as the state Police boss held in Port Harcourt.
The colourful event, which was organized by the Rivers State Police Command in collaboration with honorary members of the Police Officers Mess was also a formal reception for the new Commissioner of Police in the state, Olugbenga Adepoju.
The current Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, while presenting a gift to AIG Bala, noted that he was celebrated in appreciation of his immense contributions to the safety, peace and stability of the state while he held sway as the CP.
Adepoju expresses gratitude for Bala’s fatherly advice and unbiased mentorship of officers and men of the Command.
CP Adepoju commended the honorary members of the Mess for putting the event together while acknowledging their collective and individual contributions in cementing cordial relationships between the Police and the community.
In his brief response, AIG Bala thanked CP Adepoju, the officers and men of the command and honorary members of the mess for treating him to a colourful event, describing it as a turning point for him.
He recalled that though his stay in state command was brief, with the maximum cooperation and support from CP Adepoju, then Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, members of the command’s management team and other officers aided him in succeeding, ensuring peace and stability in the state.
AIG Bala stated, “Adequate and regular checks and supervision of DPOs, Tactical Team Commanders and other officers is very important to ensure that they carry out their duties within the framework of the law.
“Every Commissioner of Police must take this aspect seriously.”
He expressed happiness that CP Adepoju knows his onions and is very conversant with Rivers State.
He further urged the CP to work closely with all stakeholders to enable him to succeed, while enjoining officers to extend to CP Adepoju the same co-operation they accorded him during his tenure in the state.
Onengiyeofori Fenibo who is the President of the Rivers State Police Command Honorary Members of the Officers’ Mess, in his brief remarks, said, “We have gathered here today to honour AIG Bala, formally receive CP Olugbenga Adepoju as the 47th Commissioner of Police, Rivers State and unveil of the Honorary Members’ Office.”
Fenibo noted that the Police Command under CP Adepoju is not only wearing a new look but a clear testament that the “Police is our friend.”
He acknowledged the support the CP gave to the President of the Mess Committee during his tenure as DC in charge of Operations when the battle for approval to secure a space was going on.
Fenibo reminded the Honorary Members of the Mess of their obligations to assist the Police by reporting genuine cases of crime and other criminal activities.
He assured the CP of the members’ commitment to advancing the fundamental principles of the Nigeria Police Force.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief John Ojowuro, who had earlier welcomed the guests, reminded them of the importance of living in peace and harmony with one another.
He stated, “Let us uphold the spirit of oneness and work together towards a common goal of building a safer and more secure society.”
High points of the event were the presentation of gifts to AIG Bala and CP Adepoju, the commissioning of the Honorary Members Secretariat and the induction of new members into the Officers’ Mess.
