ALGON directs Osun LG workers to resume duty

The National leadership of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria has directed local government workers in Osun State to resume duties following the Court of Appeal judgment.

Recall that the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission conducted a fresh poll on February 22, 2025, in which Peoples Democratic Party candidates emerged victorious as chairmen and councillors.

Following the development, both the PDP and the All Progressives Congress in the state laid claim to the councils’ leadership.

However, the Court of Appeal delivered a judgment on February 10, 2025, which reinstated the 30 elected council chairmen of the APC.

In a letter dated March 17, 2025, signed by the Acting Director General, Evan Enekwe, on behalf of the National President, Bello Lawal, ALGON pledged its full support and cooperation to the reinstated APC chairmen in Osun State.

Lawal stated that the letter of recognition was in response to a request by Osun State ALGON Chairman, Hon. Samuel Idowu, urging the national body to intervene in the matter.

He reaffirmed the legitimacy of the APC-led executive, adding that the association is committed to the rule of law following the Appeal Curt’s judgement.

The letter read in parts. “The association also pledged to collaborate with the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) to encourage Osun local government staff to return to work.

“We appeal for caution, tolerance, and maturity in managing this sensitive situation.

“We also assure our members of continued support and cooperation to ensure stability in the state’s local government administration.

“We, therefore, condemn the violence that claimed the life of our member, Hon. Abbas, and extend condolences to his family and pray against future tragedies.”
