Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai’s Coalition Is Doomed to Fail, Club of Political Losers – Presidency

The Tinubu-led administration has dismissed the newly announced coalition of opposition figures—including Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), and Nasir El-Rufai of the Social Democratic Party (SDP)—as a grouping driven by personal grievances rather than national interest.  

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, in a statement on Thursday, described the coalition as a gathering of “frustrated” politicians and “sore losers” whose sole agenda is to undermine President Bola Tinubu.

“They are not politicians working for the public good. It’s all about their self-interest. They are disgruntled and frustrated. The leaders are sore losers. This coalition is nothing more than an amalgamation of Tinubu haters, and their only goal is to stop him,” Onanuga stated.

He further emphasized that President Tinubu remains focused on governance and is undeterred by what he termed a politically motivated alliance.

“President Tinubu is committed to building a prosperous nation and delivering on his promises. With two months left before his midterm, he has significant achievements to showcase. Complex national challenges are being addressed head-on, and he will not be distracted by this so-called coalition,” Onanuga added.

The opposition coalition was announced on Thursday at the Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, where opposition leaders held a press conference criticizing Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. During the event, Atiku Abubakar confirmed the coalition’s formation, stating, “Yes, this is the birth of the coalition of opposition ahead of 2027.”
