Bandits Kill 10, Injure 14 in Zamfara Attack

Terrorists, commonly referred to as bandits, have killed 10 members of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (CPG) and severely injured 14 others in an ambush in Anka, Zamfara State, on Saturday.  

A group of security agents, including soldiers, CPG members, and vigilante group members, had earlier attacked a bandits’ hideout in Bagega forest, killing several bandits on Friday and Saturday.

The security agents also rescued abducted victims who were being held at the hideout under the notorious terrorist leader, Alhaji Beti.

Local sources revealed that during the attack by security agents, the house of another terrorist leader, Bellon Kaura, was set ablaze, which infuriated the bandits.

“The mistake the vigilante group members and CPG officials made was following the same route they earlier took while launching the attack,” a local community leader in Anka, who sought anonymity, said. “The bandits ran away from their camp but decided to set a trap knowing that the CPG and vigilante group members would follow the road.”

He added that the bandits opened sporadic fire upon hearing the sound of the motorcycles used by the CPG and vigilante group members.

Seven of the slain security agents were from Anka, while three were from Talata Mafara.

The victims were identified as Shehu Lawali, Murtala Mesin, Ubandawaki Moda, Muhammad Want, Haruna Kwanar Maje, Ibrahim Ware Ware, Yusuf Ware Ware, Rabi’u Barbara, Lawali Dan Hassi Jangebe, and Badamasi Gima.

A funeral prayer for the fallen CPG and vigilante group members was held in Anka on Sunday, with the state governor, Dauda Lawal, pledging continued support for the fight against banditry.
