Bayelsa lifts ban on civil service employment

The Bayelsa State Government has lifted the ban on employment into the state civil service, according to a special announcement issued on Tuesday.

The announcement, signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Civil Service Commission, Dr. Stanley Sokari, directed all applications to be submitted to the commission no later than March 21, 2025.

Applicants are required to address their letters to the Chairman of the Bayelsa State Civil Service Commission and include details such as the position sought, age, sex, hometown, local government area, qualifications, relevant professional certificates, and work experience.

The embargo on civil service employment was imposed following the recruitment of 1,000 graduates under the previous administration of  Seriake Dickson.

The decision was reportedly influenced by concerns over the state’s monthly wage bill, although there were allegations of covert employments during the period.

The announcement stated:“His Excellency, the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has graciously approved the employment of suitably qualified indigenes of Bayelsa State into the Bayelsa State Civil Service. Interested and qualified candidates are requested to submit well-written letters of application to the Bayelsa State Civil Service Commission for employment.”
