BUK Inducts 118 Medical Doctors, 15 Dentistry Graduates

Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has inducted 133 newly qualified medical professionals at its 11th Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and 25th MBBS Induction Ceremony.  

The event, held today at the Convocation Arena, saw 118 medical doctors and 15 dentistry graduates take the oath of allegiance, officially joining the medical and dental professions.

Administering the oath, Dr. Fatima Kyari, Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), reminded the inductees of their responsibility to uphold ethical and professional standards. She emphasized patient confidentiality and continuous self-improvement.

“As you step into this noble profession, always remember that your patients’ trust is sacred. Uphold professionalism, ethics, and the values that define a true doctor,” she said.

Dr. Kyari also announced an increase in the admission quota for medical students at BUK, aimed at addressing the shortage of doctors in Nigeria.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Professor Aliyu Muazu, congratulated the inductees and urged them to represent BUK with integrity.

“Your journey does not end here; rather, it is the beginning of a lifelong commitment to saving lives. Remember that you are products of an institution recognized globally for its excellence,” he stated.

Professor Muazu also highlighted BUK’s ranking by Times Higher Education (UK) as Nigeria’s best university in terms of international outlook.

Delivering the keynote address, Professor Muutasim Ibrahim encouraged the graduates to continue learning, citing BUK’s motto: “Above every possessor of knowledge, there is one more learned.”

The event also recognized outstanding academic performances. Dr. Hassana Abubakar Musa was named the overall best MBBS graduate, while Dr. Amina Umar Giade received the award for the best graduating student in the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS).
