BUK, Navy Partner on Defense Education, Logistics Training

Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has strengthened its partnership with the Nigerian Navy, pledging to expand collaboration in specialized training programs and security initiatives to bolster national defense capabilities.  

The agreement was solidified during a courtesy visit on March 27, 2025, by Rear Admiral Emmanuel C. Anakwe, Commandant of the Nigerian Navy Logistics College, Dawakin Tofa, to the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas.

Speaking during the meeting, Prof. Abbas emphasized BUK’s history of cooperation with security agencies in Kano and outlined plans to design tailored short courses for naval personnel.

“We are committed to enhancing the capacity of the Nigerian Navy through targeted training programs,” he said. “Our institution stands ready to support defense education and technical expertise, just as we did during the establishment of the Nigerian Navy Logistics College.”

The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted the university’s vigilance in maintaining campus safety, stating, “While BUK currently enjoys a cultism-free environment, we remain proactive in reporting any security concerns to our partners.”

While speaking, Rear Admiral Anakwe praised BUK’s contributions and called for sustained collaboration, particularly in intelligence sharing. “Security challenges require joint efforts, and BUK’s expertise is invaluable,” he said.

He further requested logistical support, including access to a computer laboratory for integrated logistics management training.

Prof. Abbas promptly approved the use of the university’s newly equipped lab, calling it “a testament to our shared commitment to advancing defense capabilities.”
