CBW Africa calls for women empowerment to drive growth

The Commonwealth Business Women Africa has urged African governments to prioritise women’s economic empowerment to drive sustainable development and growth across the continent.

This call was made in a communiqué issued on Friday after CBW Africa’s summit in Lagos, which brought together women entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and stakeholders from across Africa.

The communiqué, signed by CBW Africa Continental President, Mrs. Ngozi Oyewole, emphasised that empowering women is key to fostering economic progress.

“Women are not just participants, but leaders, innovators, and change-makers.

“There is the need for equal representation and participation of women across all sectors to overcome economic and social challenges,” the communique read.

The forum explored ways to create synergies between trade, health, wellness, technological advancement, the informal sector, and clean energy.

It stated that this aligns with forum’s commitment to accelerating gender equality, in line with the 2025 International Women’s Day theme.

As part of its action plan, CBW Africa announced initiatives to enroll one million girls in coding programs, reduce maternal and infant mortality in rural areas, promote sustainable agricultural practices, support policies enhancing industrialization, and eliminate early marriages.

The organisation emphasised that achieving these goals requires the support of governments, organizations, and individuals.

“When women thrive, families thrive, communities prosper, and nations grow stronger,” it added.

CBW Africa reaffirmed its commitment to empowering women and driving meaningful change on the continent.

“Let us unite our efforts to make a lasting impact and forge a future where women are valued, respected, and empowered to lead,” the communique stated.
