Delta gov, Omo-Agege trade words on performance

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, have continued to exchange words over the governor’s performance in office.

During a visit to the Bomadi and Burutu Local Government Areas over the weekend, Omo-Agege accused the Oborevwori-led administration of neglecting Delta South and North Senatorial Districts.

He said, “The government under Oborevwori is not doing anything and has neglected the people of Southern and Northern senatorial districts.”

He further alleged that the PDP had abandoned certain parts of the state for the past 25 years.

But reacting to the accusations, Governor Oborevwori, through his Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, dismissed Omo-Agege’s remarks as the rantings of an idle politician.

He said, “The opposition should be able to show some element of patriotism in identifying what government is doing and not to tell lies that make them look uninformed.

“While we will continue to reply critics with projects across the state, we will not also allow certain idle politicians to continue progressing in error by exposing their ignorance to the workings of government.

“Some persons who have been in government before, either because they do not have an appointment at the moment, are continuously progressing in error by looking for who to deceive.

“As part of keeping them busy, we need to give them more information so that by the time they read, at least they have a little thing to keep them engaged rather than spewing lies here and there.”

Aniagwu went on to outline several ongoing projects across the three senatorial districts, countering claims of neglect.

“Starting from the Southern Senatorial District, in Isoko South, we have a good number of roads that we are constructing, and in Isoko North, we have the Southern Delta University located in Ozoro, and you can see the amount of structures we are building there.

“We have also continued efforts to ensure that the Technical College in Irri is completed in good time. The College of Health Technology, Ovrode—if you go there now, you see the speed at which we are going on with that project.”

“The Ughelli-Asaba road, which cuts across the three senatorial districts, is also receiving serious attention, and in Patani, we are working on Uduophori road. Schools and water projects are ongoing. If you move from there towards Bomadi, you will see that the Ohoror-Bomadi road, which is about 47km, is ongoing.”

“In our last EXCO meeting, we also approved the Bomadi-Gbaregolor road of 18.6km. In Burutu, we have the Okontu-Ogulaha Road, 12.5km, being reconstructed, among others.”

Aniagwu further pointed out efforts in the capital territory, citing the rehabilitation of the Ogbeogonogo-Nnebisi Road from Interbau Roundabout to Abraka as part of the government’s infrastructure projects.

Responding to Omo-Agege’s claim that the PDP government had failed Delta State for 25 years, Aniagwu reminded him that he was once a key member of the same administration.

“When somebody says nothing is happening, like the former Deputy Senate President says for how many years of PDP, he forgot that he was a Secretary to the State Government under those number of years. And what that means is an indication of the fact that he has scored himself very low, even when he sat at a very high level.”

“But maybe that failure, that kind of failure at that time, is what he thinks is prevalent today? No. We have moved. We have left that channel. We are in a different channel where work is moving considerably.”
