Edo partners NELFUND to disburse student loan, monthly stipends

The Edo State Government said it has partnered with the Nigerian Education Loan Fund  to make tertiary education more accessible and affordable for students in state-owned institutions.

Announcing the initiative on Monday, Commissioner for Education, Dr. Pally Iyamu, stated that the partnership would allow Edo students to enroll in university and other tertiary institutions without the immediate burden of paying tuition fees.

He further revealed that students would also receive a monthly stipend to help cover their living expenses while studying.

“This is to let Edo people know that the state government has partnered with the Nigerian Education Loan Fund to make tertiary education accessible and affordable for its citizens in state-owned institutions,” Iyamu said.

“I am calling on all students in the state’s tertiary institutions to take advantage of this great initiative by the government.”

Iyamu emphasised the state government’s commitment to reducing the financial burden on parents, many of whom struggle to pay tuition fees.

“This partnership will serve as a major relief to parents who previously had to pay hundreds of thousands of naira for their children’s education,” he noted.

The commissioner also expressed gratitude to Senator Monday Okpebholo and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for championing policies that ensure students can pursue higher education regardless of their financial background.

The initiative aims to reduce student dropout rates and remove financial barriers that prevent many from obtaining higher degrees.

To ensure widespread awareness, the state government has scheduled a two-day sensitisation programme on March 11 and 12, covering all three senatorial districts. Edo South will be hosted at Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, on March 11.

Edo Central will hold its session at AAU Student Conference Centre, Ekpoma, on March 12, while Edo North’s programme will take place at Edo University, Iyamho, on the same day.

The programme will provide students with detailed information on eligibility, application processes, and benefits of the loan scheme.
