Eid-el-Fitr: Kano Police Assure Residents of Maximum Security

The Kano State Police Command has assured residents of robust security measures to prevent any breakdown of law and order before, during, and after the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, gave the assurance during a meeting with the Kano State Coalition of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), led by Dr. Musa Sufi, and the Police-Community Relations Committee (PCRC), chaired by Amb. Comrade Ali Hassan Tudun Bayero.

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the visiting groups expressed concerns over security during the Sallah celebrations, particularly regarding the Durbar festivities, amid fears of possible violent clashes.

The groups emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence above all other interests and urged the Police Command to take all necessary steps to maintain peace and order.

In response, CP Bakori acknowledged reports of certain groups planning parallel celebrations, which could heighten tensions. However, he assured that the Police, in collaboration with other security agencies, were reviewing strategies, engaging stakeholders, and implementing measures to prevent unrest.

He called on residents to remain peaceful and vigilant, encouraging them to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the emergency contact numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, and 09029292926.

“As we celebrate this joyous occasion, let us remember that peace is paramount. We must prioritize peace above everything else, putting aside our differences and coming together as one people for the progress of the State and the Nation at large,” the statement read.

The Commissioner further appealed to community, religious, and opinion leaders to support efforts in promoting peace and calming tensions.

“We call on all community leaders, religious leaders, and opinion leaders to join us in promoting peace and calming tensions. Together, we can ensure a peaceful and joyous Sallah celebration for all,” the statement added.
