Ex-Buhari Senator Babba Kaita Joins SDP

Ahmed Babba Kaita, a former senator representing Katsina North Senatorial District, has left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Kano Times has learned.
Kaita, who previously represented the senatorial district of former President Muhammadu Buhari, had earlier defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP.
A source, speaking to Kano Times on condition of anonymity, confirmed the decision, stating, “Senator Babba Kaita has made up his mind, and all arrangements have been finalized for his move to the SDP. He believes the party offers a better platform for his political aspirations.”
Senator Kaita had previously cited internal crises and a lack of inclusivity as reasons for leaving the APC.
In the 2023 general elections, Senator Babba Kaita contested for the Katsina North Senate seat under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but lost to the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Hon. Nasiru Sani Zangon Daura.
The Returning Officer for the zone, Prof. Umar Sanda, announced that the APC candidate polled 174,062 votes, while the PDP candidate scored 163,586 votes.
