Ex-NYSC DG Tsiga Regains Freedom After 22 Days in Captivity

Maharazu Tsiga, a former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has regained his freedom after spending 22 days in captivity.  

A source confirmed on Friday night that Tsiga had been released and was receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital for security reasons.

The former NYSC DG was abducted on February 6, 2025, at his residence in Tsiga village, Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, by an unspecified number of bandits.

During the attack, two persons sustained varying degrees of injuries, while one of the gunmen was mistakenly shot dead by a member of his gang.

Government officials and security agencies, including the Katsina State Police Command, have yet to comment on Tsiga’s release.

General Tsiga was abducted when scores of armed men stormed his residence in Katsina State. The assailants reportedly surrounded the house and began breaking doors, prompting the retired general to step outside and confront them.

A federal lawmaker representing Bakori/Danja Federal Constituency, Abdullahi Balarabe Dabai, had confirmed the abduction, stating that the attackers took control of the premises before taking General Tsiga away.
