Ex-Rep Candidate Condemns Edo Attack, Demands Justice for Victims

Hon. Bashar Aliyu Sambauna, former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Ungogo/Minjibir Federal Constituency of Kano State, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of eleven northern travelers in Uromi, Edo State.

The victims, who were aboard a trailer, were burned alive in an attack that has sparked outrage across the nation.

Describing the incident as horrific, Hon. Sambauna criticized the government, media, and human rights organizations for their silence. He questioned why the authorities had not shown the urgency required to address the attack.

“This silence is not just chilling; it is deeply unsettling. It suggests systemic bias in Nigeria, where some lives appear to matter more than others. Ethnic divisions continue to widen, yet no serious effort is being made to bridge them,” he stated.

He accused the government of applying double standards in responding to violence, arguing that similar attacks elsewhere had been met with swift action, whereas this particular tragedy had been largely ignored.

Hon. Sambauna urged the federal government, security agencies, and northern leaders to act decisively to ensure justice is served.

“When such atrocities occur in other parts of the country, we see immediate government intervention, public outcry, and swift justice. Why is this case different? Where is the urgency? Where is the accountability?” he questioned.

He warned that ignoring such crimes could embolden perpetrators, leading to further violence and impunity. He stressed the need for equal protection of all Nigerians, regardless of ethnicity, to prevent further unrest.

“It is not enough to condemn these acts of violence; justice must be served through the rule of law. Resorting to jungle justice will only lead to more bloodshed and chaos,” he cautioned.

Calling on northern leaders to stand against selective justice, Hon. Sambauna emphasized that all Nigerian lives are equally valuable.

“We must uphold justice, unity, and the sanctity of human life. These murders cannot be ignored any longer. The time to act is now,” he declared.
