FG begins upgrade of 58 Nasarawa health centres
In a bid to ensure improved healthcare for residents of the state, the Federal Government in partnership with the World Bank has commenced the revitalisation of 58 primary healthcare facilities in Nasarawa State.
The Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Usman Iskilu-Saleh, disclosed this while playing host to members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists at his office in Lafia, the state capital on Wednesday.
According to him, the FG had planned to revitalise at least one PHC in each of the 147 electoral wards in the state, but decided to commence with the revitalisation of 58 healthcare centres in some of the wards, adding that the project is expected to be completed in the month of June.
He said, “The Nigerian government has shown commitment to revitalise these healthcare facilities across the 147 electoral wards by the end of this year, 2025.
“So far, we have 58 facilities in Nasarawa State that we have already commenced revitalisation, and then it is expected to be completed by June this year.
“When I say revitalisation, I simply mean that the facilities will work for 24 hours a day. There is no time that the facilities will be closed for any reason.
“So, by June we will have these 58 revitalised healthcare facilities, while we work towards revitalising the others across the 13 local government areas of the state before the end of 2025.”
Iskilu-Saleh further reiterated the commitment of the Nasarawa State government under the leadership of Governor Abdullahi Sule to provide quality healthcare service delivery to the people of the state.
He appreciated the members of the Correspondents’ Chapel for the visit and assured them of his readiness to operate an open-door policy and all-inclusive leadership.
He also charged the members of the chapel to organise medical outreach programs that would have direct health impacts on the people of the state, while assuring them of his support to succeed.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, NUJ Nasarawa State, Isaac Ukpoju, said the visit was to congratulate the agency’s Executive Secretary on his appointment and to wish him well in his endeavors.
“We are here basically to congratulate you on your appointment as the Executive Secretary of this agency. Your appointment did not come to us as a surprise due to your track records,” he said.
