Foundation urges Muslims to embrace charity, generosity during Ramadan
The LAUMGA Foundation, a social service arm of the LAUTECH Muslim Graduates’ Association, has called on Muslims to embrace devotion, charity, and generosity throughout the holy month.
The foundation’s chairman, Qosim Sulyman, on Saturday, sent his greetings to Muslims worldwide, emphasising the sacredness of Ramadan as a time for spiritual reflection, prayer, and, most importantly, acts of charity.
This is contained in a statement shared with PUNCH Online titled, “Laumga Foundation Congratulates Muslims on the Commencement of Ramadan.”
He said, “Ramadan is a blessed month and it provides us with a unique opportunity to not only grow spiritually but also to extend kindness and charity to those around us.
“It’s a time to strengthen our ties with family, community, and, most significantly, with the less privileged.”
Sulyman’s message highlights the core values of the month, including charity, prayer, and self-reflection.
He stressed that Ramadan is not merely a time of fasting, but also a chance for introspection and for Muslims to renew their commitment to the principles of Islam.
“As Allah says in the Qur’an, ‘O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous.’ [Al-Baqarah 2:183],” he reminded fellow Muslims.
The Laumga Foundation, which focuses on social services, healthcare, and education, also encouraged parents and guardians to involve their children in the fasting process as a means of instilling the values of faith and discipline early.
“Our children are the future,” Sulyman remarked.
“It’s vital that we include them in these sacred rituals, helping them understand the importance of Ramadan from a young age,” the statement further noted.
In a time of global challenges, the Foundation also called for a collective effort in supporting both the nation and the individual.
Sulyman prayed for the prosperity of Nigeria and the guidance of its leaders during this critical period.
He said, “As we embark on this blessed journey,” he said, “let’s remember that our actions can make a difference in not just our lives, but in the lives of our communities.”
