Governor Yusuf: ‘Women’s Empowerment Remains Our Focus’

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to financially supporting women in the state. 

Speaking during an Iftar event with women’s groups at the Government House on Thursday, he stated, “We have disbursed N50,000 each to thousands of women in the state to support their economic empowerment.”

This was contained in a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.

The Governor explained that the funds serve as startup capital for women involved in petty trading. According to him, over 5,000 women receive the monthly stipend.

“Now, everything is free for nursing mothers. We will continue to do more,” he added.

He also mentioned that his administration has provided mobility assistance to women’s groups to facilitate their participation in governance.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children, and Persons with Disabilities, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi, acknowledged the financial support, stating that the current administration has done more for women than previous governments.

The Wife of the Commissioner of Police and Chairperson of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Kano Branch, Hajiya Hadiza Abubakar Bakori, expressed support for the initiative and called for further measures to assist women in the state.
