House of Reps Orders Nationwide Shutdown of Porn Websites

The House of Representatives has directed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to enforce the immediate shutdown of all pornographic websites across the country.
The directive was issued during the House plenary on Tuesday, where lawmakers emphasized the need to block access to such sites through internet service providers.
The motion, sponsored by Hon. Dalhatu Tafoki, a lawmaker from Katsina State, was aimed at protecting societal values. Tafoki argued that unrestricted access to pornographic content poses a threat to moral standards and could negatively influence young people.
“The exposure of our youth to explicit content has continued to erode our societal values. It is our duty to take decisive action to curb this menace,” Tafoki stated.
The House resolution mandates the NCC to work with internet service providers to implement the directive effectively.
As of now, the NCC has not issued an official response on how it plans to carry out the order. However, the directive is expected to spark discussions on digital rights, censorship, and internet regulation in Nigeria.
