ICSAN begins construction of new national secretariat
The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria has commenced the construction of its national secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, as part of its efforts to strengthen corporate governance practices and enhance professional development in Nigeria.
Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony on Wednesday, the President of ICSAN, Funmi Ekundayo, described the project as a milestone in the institute’s history, emphasising that the new secretariat would serve as a centre for knowledge exchange, policy discussions, and capacity building for professionals in governance and administration.
He said, “This secretariat is more than just a physical structure. It represents ICSAN’s dedication to advancing corporate governance, administration, and ethical leadership in Nigeria.
“For decades, ICSAN has championed good governance, and this edifice will provide a conducive environment to expand our impact, train future leaders, and elevate professional standards.”
She noted that the project aligns with ICSAN’s long-term vision of providing a workspace to enhance research, training, and policy formulation in corporate governance.
“Every great institution needs a strong foundation—not just in principles, but also in physical infrastructure. This will be a home for present and future ICSAN members, a place where professionals will gather to shape the future of corporate governance in Nigeria,” she added.
Also, the Vice President of ICSAN, Uto Ukpanah, commended the initiative, stating that the new secretariat would enhance the institute’s operational efficiency and solidify its reputation as a leading body in corporate governance.
“We are witnessing a new era for ICSAN. This secretariat will be a hub for the best minds in governance and administration, fostering policies and practices that will improve Nigeria’s corporate landscape,” Ukpanah said.
She emphasised the role of ICSAN in driving ethical leadership across the public and private sectors, stating that the secretariat would create an enabling environment for research, advocacy, and capacity building.
“As we lay this foundation, we are also laying the groundwork for a stronger, more impactful ICSAN,” she said. “This is a step in the right direction, and I commend the leadership and stakeholders who have made this project possible.”
The ceremony was attended by key stakeholders, ICSAN members, and government officials, who expressed their support for the initiative. The secretariat, once completed, is expected to serve as a professional hub for administrators, company secretaries, and governance experts, providing a platform for training, research, and policy development in Nigeria.
