Ini Edo buries father in grand style

Dignitaries and celebrities gathered on Friday, March 21, to honour actress, Ini Edo’s late father, Jonathan Ekim, at a heartfelt burial ceremony held at QIC Primary School, Awa Iman, Onna LGA, Akwa Ibom State. Dressed in elegant all-white, Ini Edo was joined by Akwa Ibom Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, representing Governor Umo Eno. Former Governor Udom Emmanuel, a relative of the deceased, also paid his respects.

In his speech, Eno expressed gratitude that Ekim witnessed his children’s successes. “Your late father was a devoted Christian who instilled Godly virtues in his children and those around him. As painful as this loss is, take solace in the scripture, which reminds us that the passing of a believer opens the vault of Heaven,” he said.

The ceremony featured a moving church service, hymns, and a touching moment where Ini Edo and her younger brother danced in celebration of their father’s life. Nollywood stars, including Rita Dominic, Ik Ogbonna, Nancy Isime, Uche Jombo, Lilian Afegbai, and Ruth Kadiri, turned out to support their colleague.

Recall that on February 24, 2025, Ini Edo mourned her father on social media. She wrote, “This post has been the hardest to make. I have lost my greatest cheerleader, my beloved father, my first love. The Heavens have gained an Angel. You will forever remain in my heart. Rest on, King.”
