Installation of Oyo monarch lawful – Ruling house
The Olurin Royal family of the Akalako Ruling House of Eruwa in the Ibarapa East Local Government Area of Oyo State has reaffirmed the installation of Oba Samuel Adegbola, Ajobo Olurin I, as the Eleruwa of Eruwa, describing the process “as lawful, transparent and a joint decision of the Eruwa kingmakers.”
The Head of Olurin Royal family of Akalako Ruling House, Chief Pade Babalola, disclosed this during a press briefing held in Eruwa, the headquarters of the local government area, on Friday.
The PUNCH reports that the Laribikusi Ruling House had, on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, asked Governor Seyi Makinde to reverse the appointment of Oba Adegbola, threatening to seek legal redress in Court.
It will also be recalled that on Friday, November 29, 2019, the Supreme Court deposed Oba Adegbola as the Eleruwa of Eruwaland after he had reigned for 21 years.
However, on March 6, 2025, Adegbola was reappointed, given a certificate, and presented with the staff of office by Governor Makinde as the new Eleruwa of Eruwaland.
Speaking further, Babalola said, “The process of nomination, selection and enthronement of Adegbola followed a due process. It was a joint decision of the Eruwa kingmakers which was ratified by the State Government.”
He insisted that the process from the beginning to the end was monitored by the government at the state and local government levels, while the security agencies and other relevant stakeholders were also on ground.
Babalola, therefore, urged the people to resist any action or inaction that could bring disrepute to the Eruwa people and the Eleruwa Royal stool.
“The process, which led to the emergence of Adegbola as the Eleruwa of Eruwa, was legally backed, and also has the unanimous support of the Kingmakers. There’s no cause for alarm. Nobody influenced anyone; the kingmakers exercised the power given to them, and they all agreed that it was their unanimous decision that produced the monarch that the governor authenticated.
“Traditional institutions hold lots of values and norms in the development of our society, because of the many roles it portends, especially at the grassroots. Our country is plagued with a lot of security challenges, and government alone cannot do it, that’s the more reason why we can’t afford to remain dormant. As a town, we need to progress. Some people are enjoying the system as dormant as it was.”
He further advised them to accept the selection process and move on with the development of the town.
“Some people are fueling crisis, because that’s their own means of survival. Many of them have turned themselves to Shakespeare, a person whose lineage has no connection with royalty will attach less value to the institution, and that’s just what some people have turned themselves into.”
The family head then commended the elders council, youths, religious organizations, sons and daughters of Eruwaland for working together to sustain the unity and love in the ancient city.
