Jigawa Govt Approves N15.8bn for Basic Education Improvement

The Jigawa State Government has approved N15.8 billion for the implementation of a comprehensive basic education programme aimed at enhancing access to free and quality education in the state.

Sagir Musa, the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, announced this on Wednesday in Dutse.

He stated that the State Executive Council (SEC) had approved the funds to accelerate the implementation of the Jigawa Unified New Improvement of Teaching and Education (Jigawa UNITE) programme.

Mr. Musa explained that the programme was designed to promote the use of innovative technology and data-driven platforms to enhance the quality of learning materials during the 2024–2026 academic sessions.

“It will introduce effective teacher training and technology-enabled support teams to drive significant improvements in learning outcomes across the state,” he said.

“This initiative is part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the state government and New Globe Education Services Limited for the transformation of primary education, with an initial mobilization of 30 percent, amounting to N4.7 billion,” he added.

Mr. Musa further disclosed that the council had approved the disbursement of N839 million as compensation to the 210 families affected by the Majia tanker explosion.

Additionally, the commissioner stated that the SEC had approved guidelines for the implementation of the Alternative Care for Children (ACC) programme, aimed at ensuring social protection for vulnerable persons and children.
