JUST IN: Drama as Natasha’s supporters protest at NASS over Akpabio

Tensions flared outside the National Assembly on Wednesday morning as supporters of Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan staged a protest, demanding action against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The protesters, who gathered early in the morning, called for Akpabio’s resignation following sexual harassment allegations made by the Kogi Central lawmaker.

However, the demonstration took a tense turn when police officers dispersed the crowd using tear gas to maintain order.

The protest coincided with the resumption of plenary and a scheduled hearing by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions.

Meanwhile, the Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order preventing the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions from proceeding with investigation against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The ruling was made on Tuesday by Justice Obiora Egwuatu, following an ex parte application submitted by Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal team.

The senator, who represents Kogi Central, had been summoned to appear before the Senate’s disciplinary committee after a confrontation with Senate President Godswill Akpabio on February 20.
