Kalu: 2027 Belongs to Tinubu, Igbo Presidency Can Wait  

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, has declared that President Bola Tinubu must be re-elected in 2027, emphasizing that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has no alternative candidate.

Speaking during an interview on Channels TV, the former Abia State governor ruled out any challenge to Tinubu’s candidacy within the APC.

“He’s our only candidate,” Kalu stated.

While acknowledging the importance of an Igbo presidency, Kalu said 2027 is not the right time for such a discussion.

“I am not going to discuss anything about the Igbo presidency. But I still tell you there is a need for it,” he said.

According to him, for an Igbo person to become president, they must present a candidate acceptable to all Nigerians.

“No one zone can make a president. President Tinubu was not elected by the Yoruba. He was elected by all Nigerians,” Kalu stressed.

When asked when he thought an Igbo presidency would be feasible, he reiterated his stance on Tinubu’s two-term presidency.

“Well, in our party, we have only one presidential candidate now. And Tinubu has to do eight years. It’s a must. You can see the repairs he has done to the economy, and things are starting to pick up again,” he said.

He noted that Tinubu has not personally declared his intention to run for re-election, but the party has taken a position.

“This president is not even doing politics. He has never told anybody he wants to run for election or not. But as a party, we have mandated him to run and given him a vote of confidence,” Kalu said.

According to him, the APC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) has already endorsed Tinubu’s leadership.

“The NEC has given him a vote of confidence through a motion proposed by the Governor of Imo State and announced by Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, who is the National Chairman of the party. So, things cannot just get better in one night,” he added.
