NDLEA Arrests 40-Year-Old Woman with 424 Codeine Bottles in Kano

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 40-year-old woman, Khadijah Abdullahi, for being in possession of 424 bottles of codeine-based syrup in Kano State.

Abdullahi was apprehended on Tuesday, March 18, at Lungun Bulala Yalwa area following intelligence-driven surveillance by NDLEA officers. Her arrest is part of the agency’s intensified crackdown on drug trafficking and abuse across the country.

The NDLEA, in a statement signed by its Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, confirmed the arrest alongside other recent drug seizures in Kano, Lagos, and other parts of Nigeria.

“In another interdiction operation in Kano, NDLEA officers on Thursday 20th March arrested a 45-year-old suspect, Michael Ogundele, with a 50-litre steel gas cylinder at Gadar Tamburawa, along Zaria-Kano road. Based on credible intelligence, welding tools were later used to cut the giant cylinder, after which 50,000 pills of tramadol 225mg concealed in it were extracted,” the statement read.

Similarly, Sunday Ogar, 40, was nabbed at Gunduwawa area on Wednesday, March 19, with 27kg of skunk, a strain of cannabis.

The NDLEA noted that these arrests underscore the agency’s commitment to tackling drug trafficking networks in the country.

The agency also emphasized its continued War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative, which includes sensitization programs in schools, markets, workplaces, and worship centers.

While commending the officers involved in the latest drug seizures, NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), urged personnel to remain relentless in their efforts.

“The agency remains committed to dismantling drug supply networks while also intensifying advocacy to curb drug abuse among Nigerians,” Marwa stated.
