NNPP Crisis Worsens as Kano Gov’s Spokesperson Declares War on Rep. Tijjani Jobe
The ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State is experiencing internal strife as tensions rise between Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Director-General of Media and Publicity to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, and Engr. Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe, a member of the House of Representatives representing Dawakin Tofa, Tofa, and Rimin Gado Federal Constituency.
The conflict escalated after Sanusi Bature publicly criticized Engr. Tijjani Jobe on his verified Facebook page, marking the beginning of a political confrontation.
“Inform Hon. Jobe that if he wants a fight, I am ready. I swear I am not afraid of him anymore—he knows that better than anyone,” Bature wrote in Hausa, openly challenging the lawmaker.
He emphasized the need for elected officials to be accountable, stating that leadership should be about service rather than personal gain.
“My respect for him is based on his duty to serve the people who voted for him. Their rights are in his hands to protect and deliver. Anyone elected to represent us must fulfill the people’s mandate,” he stated.
The political rift dates back to the 2023 general elections when Sanusi Bature initially planned to contest for the House of Representatives under the NNPP but later withdrew after Engr. Tijjani Jobe defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the NNPP.
Tensions grew further when Bature praised Engr. Abba Ganduje, son of the APC National Chairman, for his remarks at the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) Strategic Roundtable with the Adamawa State Government.
“Engr. Abba Ganduje knows what he is doing. He is a good representative of Dawakin Tofa and an excellent fit for his role at REA. Keep representing us well, my brother. I wish you Allah’s guidance,” Bature stated.
Supporters of Engr. Jobe viewed this as a betrayal, deepening divisions within the NNPP Kwankwasiyya movement.
Sanusi Bature, while criticizing Engr. Jobe, hinted at his political ambitions and reaffirmed his commitment to the people.
“No one should assume that just because I am interested in contesting, I will tolerate nonsense. I believe in destiny and would easily set aside my political aspirations to defend the honor of our people,” he remarked.
“Political aspirations? You act as if you cannot live without contesting. If necessary, I will abandon my candidacy just to oppose you, especially since you are unwilling to change,” he added.
The NNPP in Kano has been grappling with internal crises, including the recent suspension of four National Assembly members—Senator Kawu Sumaila, Rep. Ali Madakin Gini, Rep. Sani Abdullahi Rogo, and Rep. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum—over alleged anti-party activities.
This follows the suspension in October last year, which led to the removal of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, and the Commissioner for Transport, Muhammad Diggol, over allegations of insubordination and disrespect toward the party’s leadership.
