No Regrets Over El-Rufai’s Exit, We Remain Strong Without Him – APC

The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed concerns over the defection of former governor Nasir El-Rufai to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), insisting that the party remains unaffected by his departure.  

El-Rufai, a founding member of the APC, announced his resignation from the party via a Facebook statement on Monday, citing a deviation from its founding ideals.

He accused the current leadership of abandoning the progressive values that guided the party’s formation in 2013 and disregarding internal democracy.

According to El-Rufai, recent developments within the APC showed a lack of commitment to addressing internal challenges, prompting his decision to join the SDP.

He expressed disappointment in what he described as the party’s failure to uphold the principles of good governance, democracy, and development.

“I, therefore, urge all our supporters and concerned citizens to join us in the SDP as we work towards making Nigeria a beacon of pride for Africa and the Black Race,” he stated.

Reacting to El-Rufai’s defection, the Secretary of the Kaduna APC, Yahaya Baba-Pate, downplayed its impact, emphasizing that the party remains focused on the 2027 elections.

“We are unperturbed by former governor Nasir El-Rufai’s exit. Our priority remains ensuring victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani in 2027,” Baba-Pate said.

He added that the APC in Kaduna continues to expand, with more politicians joining the party. “The APC in Kaduna is growing daily, and we are not disturbed by any defection,” he said.
