‘Osimhen deal difficult for United’
Manchester United’s pursuit of Victor Osimhen appears to be fraught with financial obstacles, with transfer expert Ben Jacobs saying that a feasible deal for the Nigerian international may be impossible for the struggling Premier League side.
The Red Devils find themselves in a challenging position this season, currently languishing in 14th place in the Premier League and having parted ways with former manager Erik ten Hag early in the campaign.
Despite the appointment of Ruben Amorim, the team continues to face significant challenges both on and off the pitch.
United’s forward line has been a particular source of concern, with neither Joshua Zirkzee nor Rasmus Hojlund consistently delivering the goals needed to lift the team’s performance. This has intensified speculation about potential striker signings, with Osimhen emerging as a prime target.
Currently on loan at Galatasaray after a contentious summer transfer window with Napoli, Osimhen has continued to impress with 22 goals in 27 appearances, further fuelling transfer speculation.
However, Jacobs provides a sobering assessment of the potential move, telling GIVEMESPORT, “It could become irrelevant whether Osimhen is open to Manchester United, if Manchester United can’t afford that deal.”
The transfer expert highlighted multiple financial barriers preventing the move.
“Right now it’s, financially, very difficult for Manchester United,” Jacobs explained. He pointed to several critical issues, including the club’s Profitability and Sustainability Regulations position, the potential lack of European football next season, and reduced broadcast revenue from missing out on the Champions League.
Recent reports have suggested various scenarios for Osimhen’s future, including a potential swap deal involving Rasmus Hojlund. Napoli, who retain Osimhen’s contract until 2026 with an option to extend to 2027, are reportedly evaluating multiple options for the striker.
The Nigeria international’s current situation remains complex. After negotiations with Chelsea and Saudi clubs collapsed dramatically last summer, Osimhen signed a contract extension and moved to Galatasaray on loan. His performances in Turkey have continued to attract attention from top European clubs.
While Manchester United would undoubtedly view Osimhen as a statement signing, the financial realities suggest the move may be more challenging than initially anticipated.
The club may need to explore alternative options or potentially defer their interest until their financial position improves.
