‘Osimhen will change things for Chelsea’

Former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant has tipped Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen as the game-changer for Chelsea if they eventually lure him to Stamford Bridge.

Osimhen has been consistently linked with a transfer to Chelsea for the last two years due to his brilliant performances for Napoli and Galatasaray and the Nigerian turned down the chance to join them last summer over personal terms.

Former Liverpool winger Pennant believes that Osimhen would put up incredible numbers for Chelsea and possibly lead the team to silverware.

“He (Osimhen) would change things for Chelsea without a shout of a doubt. He knows how to put the ball in the back of the net. His numbers are flying in, his numbers are great,” Pennant told Talk Sports.

“I’m gonna look back to Jackson and how many chances he gets a game, but the conversion rate isn’t great. He can have three or four clear-cut chances and he won’t put any of them away.

“You’re scratching your head, thinking about how have Chelsea come away with a draw or a loss. I think someone like Osimhen, who is prolific in front of goal would boost Chelsea or boost any team.”

The 26-year-old has been the subject of transfer since last season following his fall out with his parent club Napoli.

While he is said to be open to a move to Manchester United, reports also say Juventus are preparing to offer a player-plus-cash deal to sign the Nigeria international from Napoli in the summer.

Chelsea who saw their offer turned down by the player last summer are also said to be interested in making a new offer.

Osimhen is currently on loan at Galatasaray where he has been in great shape, with 20 goals and four assists in 20 Super Lig games for league leaders Galatasaray.

He also has 26 goals and five assists in 30 games across all competitions.

The striker is currently on international duty with Nigeria, scoring a brace in their 2-0 win over Rwanda on Friday in Kigali to boost their hopes of reaching the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
