Pedestrians killed in Ogun multiple auto crashes
Two separate road accidents in Ilepa, along the Abeokuta-Lagos Motorway, and Kajola Village, along the Sagamu-Abeokuta Expressway in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, Ogun State, have claimed the lives of two unidentified pedestrians.
PUNCH Metro gathered from the state police command on Thursday that the two separate accidents took place on Wednesday evening and late Thursday night.
The first incident happened around 10:30pm on March 5, 2025, at Ilepa, involving a Mitsubishi car with number plate KTU 681 DP driven by Ezekiel Sanyaolu.
The vehicle, travelling from Abeokuta to Lagos, reportedly veered out of control, crossed the road median and struck a pedestrian.
Confirming the incident, the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, stated that the victim sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Ifo General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Odutola stated, “His body has been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for autopsy. The Motor Traffic Police visited the scene, and the vehicle involved has been taken to the station for further inspection by the Vehicle Inspection Office and safety officials.”
Addressing the accident that occurred around 4:00pm on Thursday at Kajola Village along the Sagamu-Abeokuta Expressway, Odutola stated that another pedestrian was struck and killed.
She explained that the accident involved a Lexus car with number plate KUJ 129 BS, driven by Ololade Shittu of Isabo, Abeokuta, which struck the victim after he reportedly entered the road without checking for oncoming traffic.
She said, “The pedestrian died instantly, and the body has been taken to Idera Hospital Mortuary for an autopsy.
“Officers visited the scene, conducted a rough sketch map of the accident, and took photographs for documentation.
“The vehicle has been moved to the police station for further investigation and inspection by the VIO.”
PUNCH Metro had reported in December 2024 that two unknown pedestrians were killed in separate auto crashes on the Lagos-Ibadan and Ijebu-Ode Expressways.
Odutola urged both motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution to prevent further tragedies on the roads, adding that investigations into both incidents were ongoing.
