PF Music unites African talents at jazz concert
An African jazz advocacy initiative, PF Music, recently hosted the African Jazz Series Concert 2025, an event dedicated to showcasing the continent’s rich jazz heritage.
The concert, held at Terra Kulture, Victoria Island, Lagos State, brought together top jazz musicians from across Africa in a celebration of rhythm, culture and musical innovation.
In his welcome message, the Managing Director of PF Music, Peter Fisher, revealed that the event was revived to reboot the beauty of African jazz in its purest form.
Fisher, also known as the Bassman, said, “Jazz is more than just music; it’s a story, a movement, and an expression of Africa’s rich cultural heritage. From the legendary jazz sounds of Fela Kuti and Hugh Masekela to the contemporary beats of African Jazz fusion; that is exactly what African jazz is— a fusion of jazz idioms with the vast and different cultural flavours that exist, so differently in virtually every country on the continent.
“The event will be the first of many dedicated to celebrating just that, with bands from all over the Africa coming to Lagos to perform (along with Nigerian bands) their brand of “our” jazz; African jazz.
The event honoured legendary pioneers such as Fela Kuti, Hugh Masekela, Manu Dibango, Abdullah Ibrahim, and Miriam Makeba while highlighting a new generation of jazz virtuosos.
The inaugural concert showcased two exceptional bands representing the evolving sound of African jazz: the GHJazz Collective (Ghana), and the AFRO4 (Nigeria and South Africa).
