Police hunt abductors of NDDC MD’s aide

The Bayelsa State Police Command said it had launched a manhunt for the abductors of Mr Akari Eloghonan Loveday, SA Domestic to the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Dr Samuel Ogbuku.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Musa Mohammed, told PUNCH Metro on Sunday that the kidnappers had yet to make any contact with the victim’s family or make any ransom demands.

“The police have launched a manhunt for the abductors to rescue the man. They have not made any contact or any ransom demands,” Mohammed stated.

Akari was kidnapped last Friday evening by some gunmen in a speedboat while on his way to Ayakoro community, Ogbuku’s hometown, in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

It was the first time that a kidnapping incident had taken place in Bayelsa State in a long time.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the kidnappers stopped the boat midstream and pulled Akari into their boat and tried to get away, but the engine stalled and they had to paddle to the river bank to make their way into the forest.

A source who pleaded anonymity had told our correspondent that security agents including men of the Nigeria Police had cordoned off the area and were carrying out a stop-and-search operation.

The source said: “The SA Domestic to the NDDC MD has been kidnapped. He was kidnapped along the river on the way to Ayakoro when he was kidnapped.

“They took him out of the boat, but as they tried to get away, their engine stopped suddenly, so they pulled to the shore and ran into the bush.

“As I was coming, on the road to Otuoke and the entire area, there was a heavy police presence. They were doing stop and search.”
