Political Activist MC Tagwaye Dumps APC, Joins SDP  

Popular entertainer and entrepreneur Obinna Simon, known as MC Tagwaye, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP), citing dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership and policies.  

In a statement, MC Tagwaye said his decision followed “months of intense consultation and introspection,” adding that the APC “has deviated from its original ideals and is no longer committed to the welfare and progress of the Nigerian people.”

He criticized the APC for neglecting loyal members and maintaining a leadership structure that sidelines young people.

“The party’s glaring lack of a reward system for loyal members, its gerontocratic leadership structure, and its policies that perpetuate hardship for low-income earners have collectively sounded the death knell for my membership,” he said.

MC Tagwaye also accused the APC of undermining internal democracy, stating that a few individuals now control the party’s affairs.

“The APC’s internal democracy has been egregiously compromised, with a few power brokers dictating the party’s direction and disregarding the voices and aspirations of the majority,” he said.

Explaining his decision to join the SDP, he said the party stands for transparency and youth inclusion.

“In stark contrast, the SDP has emerged as a beacon of hope, with its unwavering commitment to the youth, internal democracy, transparency, and accountability. The party’s vision for a new Nigeria, where the welfare and progress of all citizens are paramount, resonates deeply with me,” he said.

MC Tagwaye confirmed that he had submitted his resignation letter to his ward chairman and urged Nigerians who share his vision to support the SDP.

“Together, we can create a brighter future for ourselves, our children, and our great nation,” he added.
