Provide relief for Osun communal clash victims, FHA boss urges NEMA

The Executive Director, Project Implementation at the Federal Housing Authority, Abuja, Mr. Oluremi Omowaiye, has called on the National Emergency Management Agency to urgently provide relief materials for those displaced by the ongoing communal clashes in Osun State.

The violent confrontations involving hoodlums from Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun have led to several deaths, multiple injuries, and widespread destruction of properties since the crisis erupted in the early hours of Friday.

Omowaiye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Osun, expressed deep concern over the absence of relief efforts more than 72 hours after the clashes began.

This he disclosed in a Sunday statement shared with journalists in Osogbo.

“Over 72 hours after, we can’t see anyone set up camp or provide any form of succour for those displaced in the violent clashes in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun,” he lamented.

The former Osun State Commissioner for Works described the situation as dire, with displaced residents left without shelter, food, or support.

“These are people living in their various houses and having places of work till Thursday evening when the crisis erupted.

“They have suddenly become displaced right in their own state. They should be treated better, and I find it hard to believe that authorities directly concerned are not acting yet,” he said.

Omowaiye appealed directly to NEMA to intervene without further delay.

“On behalf of these people, I am pleading with NEMA to come around and provide relief materials.

“The agency should set up camp immediately.

“These people are hanging around, sleeping in churches and mosques for those that could find, while others have been sleeping at different spots along the Osogbo/Ogbomoso road,” he stated.

Meanwhile, he also called on the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, and former Osun governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, to leverage his influence to secure immediate federal assistance.

“I am also using this medium to call on ex-governor Adegboyega Oyetola, who is the minister representing Osun in the federal cabinet, to use his connections and goodwill to get immediate aid for these people.

“They can’t be left in such a condition,” Omowaiye added.
