PUNCHman Akinbo gets AIPS Young Reporters nomination
NewsNGR Newspapers reporter, Peter Akinbo, has been nominated for the International Sports Press Association Young Reporters Writing category for his work on blind judokas.
The nomination, which was announced on Saturday by AIPS, featured Akinbo’s article titled “From pain to gain: After attempting suicide, blind judokas find new lives in sports,” which was published in NewsNGR Nigeria Limited.
Akinbo is the only Nigerian nominee in the Young Reporters Writing category, which features nominees from 29 countries across the globe and eight from Africa.
According to AIPS, “The longlist represents the first judging stage and is based on the average ratings of the AIPS panel of specialists, the Executive Committee members and the members of the Jury.”
A total of 37 young sports reporters made the longlist in alphabetical order of countries, with nominees representing diverse regions including Afghanistan, Australia, Brazil, China, France, India, Iran, Lebanon, Nepal, Pakistan, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, the United Kingdom, Ukraine and the United States.
The nomination comes shortly after another NewsNGR Newspapers senior correspondent, Abiodun Adewale, was nominated for both the Nigeria Pitch Awards and the AIPS Sport Media Awards in the Best Colour Piece category.
The AIPS Sport Media Awards ceremony will be held in Rabat, Morocco, during the AIPS congress from May 13–16, marking the first time the ceremony will be held in Africa.
