Sarkin Sasa’s Death: A Great Loss to Arewa Community – Rurum

The former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, has expressed sorrow over the death of Sarkin Sasa, Alhaji Haruna Maiyasin Katsina, describing him as a unifying figure in the Arewa community in Southern Nigeria.  

In a condolence message, Kabiru Rurum, who is the member representing Rano, Kibiya, and Bunkure Federal Constituency, acknowledged the late Sarkin Sasa’s role as Chairman of the Council of Arewa Traditional Rulers in the 17 Southern States of Nigeria.

“His demise at the age of 125 marks the end of an era of leadership, wisdom, and service to the Arewa community in the South,” he said.

Recalling his relationship with the late monarch, Rurum noted his influence during his early days in public service. “When I was elected Councillor of Ward ‘F’ in Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State in 1997, he was a pillar of support, offering guidance and encouragement,” he said.

Rurum described the late traditional leader as someone who worked to ensure peaceful coexistence among different ethnic groups.

“His commitment to promoting unity, fostering peaceful coexistence, and upholding the values of the Arewa community in Southern Nigeria remains a legacy that will never be forgotten,” he added.

He extended his condolences to the late monarch’s family, the people of Sasa, the Hausa community in the South, and the Arewa Traditional Council. “May the Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus,” Rurum said.
