Tax reform bills will improve Nigeria’s economy – Speaker’s aide

Chibuike Emmanuel, an aide to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has stated that the tax reform bills passed by the Green Chamber on Tuesday will drive development and improve the country’s economy.

In a statement on Wednesday, Emmanuel also commended the speaker for his exemplary leadership in steering the passage of the four tax reform bills.

He said, “The four tax reform bills passdd by the House of Representatives on Tuesday will drive growth, development and investment. It will also improve the country’s economy and Gross Domestic Product.”

The tax reform bills, which were sent to the National Assembly in October 2024, have been the subject of intense debate and scrutiny.

Various stakeholders, including Northern leaders, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, and other interest groups, expressed concerns about certain provisions.

According to Emmanuel, the passage ofnrhe bills reaffirms the Speaker’s reputation as a seasoned leader who prioritizes national progress through dialogue, inclusivity, and consensus-building.

He added, “Despite the controversies surrounding the tax reforms, Mr. Speaker has demonstrated unwavering commitment to legislative excellence and national interest.

“Through engagement, diplomacy, and a deep sense of inclusion, he has led the House in achieving a transformative reform that will enhance Nigeria’s economic landscape. Once again, Mr. Speaker, you have shown that with visionary leadership, this great nation will be scaled to greater heights.”

He further urged all stakeholders to rally behind these reforms, as they are designed to strengthen Nigeria’s fiscal policies, enhance revenue generation, and drive sustainable economic development.
