Veteran Kannywood Actor Abdullahi Shuaibu Karkuzu Passes Away at 94  

Renowned Jos-based Kannywood actor Abdullahi Shuaibu, popularly known as Karkuzu, has passed away at the age of 94.

He died on Tuesday at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) after a brief illness.

His funeral prayer was held on Wednesday morning, drawing hundreds of mourners, including colleagues, family members, and admirers who came to pay their final respects.

Speaking on his father’s passing, Dalhatu Abdullahi described the loss as devastating for the family.

“Karkuzu was not just a father but a pillar of strength for us all. His wisdom and kindness touched many lives, and his absence will be deeply felt,” he said.

A veteran of the Hausa film industry, Karkuzu is survived by his wife and six children.

Reflecting on his legacy, fellow actor and filmmaker Sani Mu’azu praised Karkuzu’s resilience and dedication to his craft.

“What struck me most about Karkuzu was his determination. Despite facing numerous challenges, including health issues, he continued acting well into his old age, inspiring younger generations of actors and actresses,” Mu’azu said.

He added, “I had the privilege of knowing Karkuzu for over 40 years, and he was truly an exceptional talent. His versatility, effortlessly transitioning between comedic and serious roles, set him apart. His contributions to Kannywood will never be forgotten.”
