YOSPIS: Say No to Violence, Yes to Peaceful Eid in Kano

As Muslims across Kano State prepare to celebrate Eid, the Youth Society for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices (YOSPIS) has called on young people to mark the occasion in peace and unity while shunning all forms of violence and negative behavior.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Executive Director of YOSPIS, Zainab Nasir Ahmad, emphasized the importance of fostering an atmosphere of brotherhood and mutual respect during the festive period.
“Eid is a time of joy, reflection, and gratitude. It is a time to strengthen our bonds as a community and uphold the values of love, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence,” she stated.
YOSPIS, a leading youth empowerment and social reformation organization in Kano, has been at the forefront of engaging young people in positive initiatives. Given past incidents of unrest during festive seasons, the group is urging the youth to reject violence, drug abuse, and any form of anti-social behavior.
“We strongly advise our youth to celebrate responsibly and avoid any engagement in activities that could disrupt the peace of our communities. Let us use this occasion to support one another, help those in need, and uphold the values of respect and integrity,” Zainab Nasir Ahmad added.
She further called on religious and community leaders, parents, and security agencies to play an active role in ensuring a peaceful celebration. She also encouraged young people to engage in community-building activities such as charity work and volunteering, making Eid more meaningful.
Additionally, YOSPIS appealed to political leaders and stakeholders to champion peace and set a positive example for young people.
“Leadership comes with responsibility. We urge our leaders to promote messages of unity and ensure that their followers conduct themselves in a manner that fosters peace, partnership, and development. A peaceful society is the foundation for progress, and it is our collective duty to safeguard it,” she urged.
