Dennis to make injury return next week

Nigerian forward Emmanuel Dennis is expected to make his return to action next week, Blackburn Rovers manager Valerien Ismael has confirmed.
The Nottingham Forest loanee, who has missed Rovers’ last two Championship fixtures against Portsmouth and Middlesbrough due to injury, will be joined by fellow sidelined teammates Callum Brittain and Augustus Kargbo in what will be a timely boost to the Lancashire club’s attacking options.
Dennis, 27, had shown promising signs before his setback, notably providing an assist in the 2-1 defeat to Cardiff City at Ewood Park.
“This week won’t be possible for some who are injured, but we’re hopeful that they will be back next week to give us more options and a different profile,” Ismael said during his pre-match press conference ahead of Tuesday’s (today) clash against Sheffield Wednesday.
The Blackburn boss also delivered positive news regarding the squad’s general fitness following their match against Middlesbrough.
“We’ve not lost anyone from the game against Middlesbrough, which is good news,” he said.
“All the players have recovered from that game and give us the possibility of making changes.”
Dennis has struggled to recapture the form that saw him score 10 goals and provide six assists for Watford during the 2021/22 Premier League season.
Following Watford’s relegation, he secured a high-profile transfer to Nottingham Forest but has found consistent playing time difficult to come by, leading to his loan move to Blackburn.
His anticipated return could offer him the opportunity to reignite his career and potentially earn selection for Nigeria’s squad in the upcoming Four-Nation Invitational Tournament in London this summer.
