Ejuke, Adams brace for Sevilla managerial reset
Nigerian duo Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke are set to play under a new manager at Sevilla after the Spanish club announced the dismissal of Garcia Pimienta, following a dismal run of form in 2025.
Sevilla’s 1–0 defeat to Valencia on Friday night extended their losing streak to four matches in La Liga, leaving them 13th on the table and at risk of dropping further depending on other results. The team has managed only three wins since the turn of the year, prompting the club’s directors to act decisively.
For Adams, who joined the club from Montpellier in January for €5.5m, the managerial upheaval compounds what has already been a frustrating start to life in Spain. The 24-year-old striker has featured four times since his winter arrival but is yet to register a goal or assist. More worryingly, he is still in search of his first win with the team.
Ejuke, meanwhile, is further along in his Sevilla journey. The winger signed on a free transfer last summer after his contract with CSKA Moscow expired. He has made 21 league appearances this season, scoring two goals and providing one assist. However, his last goal came in early March, and it proved to be the match-winner in what remains Sevilla’s only victory in their last seven outings.
With Pimienta’s departure now confirmed, Sevilla have moved swiftly to appoint Joaquin Caparros on an interim basis. Caparros is no stranger to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, having managed the side in temporary spells in 2018 and 2019. His immediate task will be to guide the club away from relegation trouble, with Sevilla sitting seven points clear of the drop zone with seven fixtures remaining.
Among those matches are crucial head-to-heads against fellow strugglers Las Palmas, Alaves, Osasuna and Leganes. Nigerian fans will be watching closely to see if Adams can find his scoring touch as he is awaiting his first Super Eagles call-up and if Ejuke can rediscover his early-season form under the veteran coach as Sevilla fight to preserve their top-flight status.
