Five injured as car rams into pedestrians at RCCG gate

Five persons were hospitalised after sustaining severe injuries in an accident that occurred at the main gate of the Redeemed Christian Church of God headquarters along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

PUNCH Metro learnt in a traffic update by the Commandant General of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Seni Ogunyemi, on Wednesday that the accident occurred on Tuesday evening.

Ogunyemi noted that the accident occurred when a Sienna bus collided with a Highlander Jeep, forcing it to ram into some pedestrians.

He said, “A serious road traffic accident occurred in front of RCCG main gate, seven persons were involved and five persons were injured.

“According to an eyewitness, excessive speed and loss of control by the driver of the Toyota Sienna caused it to hit a Toyota Highlander from the rear.

In the process, the vehicle somersaulted into the drainage and knocked down the injured victims.”

Ogunyemi noted that seven persons were involved in the accident while five people were injured.

He continued, “TRACE, FRSC, and the police were on the ground monitoring the traffic situation while the accident vehicle was towed to Mowe Police Station for further investigation.

“However, three victims were rescued to OSUTH in Sagamu by OGSAES while the remaining two were rescued to Famobis Hospital at Lotto by FRSC.”

The TRACE CG identified the vehicles involved as one Toyota Sienna (Blue, MUS 51 JU), one Toyota Highlander (Wine, LSD 782 DY), one Bajaj motorcycle (Red, DED 801 UV), and one Bajaj motorcycle (AKM 524 VD).

PUNCH Metro reported on April 5 that at least 25 people, including an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps, lost their lives while eight people were reportedly injured in two separate multiple crashes.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, disclosed that the first multiple crash involving a Mack truck marked SEY 363 YY, a tanker with registration number T2900 LA, and a bus marked LSD 180 YA at about 7 a.m. around the NIPCO filling station axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway claimed seven lives while four people were injured.

Okpe noted that the accident was caused by excessive speed on the part of the driver of the Mack truck, which led to the loss of control, after which it rammed into the other two vehicles.
