Fulani Youth Clash Over Girlfriend During Eid-El-Fitr in Abuja

A violent altercation broke out in Katampe during the ongoing Eid-El-Fitr celebrations, resulting in injuries to several Fulani youths.
The confrontation, which occurred on the second day of the festive period, was reportedly sparked by a dispute over relationships, involving multiple individuals armed with dangerous weapons.
According to counter-insurgency analyst in Lake Chad, Makama Zagazola, the altercation led to the hospitalization of two individuals, Isiaka Abubakar and Isiaka Mohammed, both males from Ruga Katampe.
“The situation escalated quickly, and the violence saw the youths using dangerous weapons, leaving the two victims with serious injuries,” Zagazola stated.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fight took place around 19:30 and rapidly disrupted the festive atmosphere in the area. “It was a terrifying scene. The youths were fighting violently, and it was hard to make sense of the situation until the police arrived,” said one local resident who witnessed the incident.
Police patrol teams were swiftly dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call. They quickly brought the situation under control, but the youths involved fled into the nearby bush.
Both victims were rushed to Jareal Hospital in Mpape for medical treatment following the violent altercation. “We are doing our best to stabilize them, but their injuries are quite severe,” a hospital source confirmed.
This violent confrontation is not the first of its kind in Katampe. Locals noted that such altercations have become a recurring issue during major celebrations, particularly on the second day of Eid-El-Fitr, among Fulani youths.
In response to the growing concern, the Sarkin Fulani and Ardo of the community have been invited to a critical meeting with Fulani stakeholders, scheduled for April 1, 2025, at 10:00 AM. Authorities are continuing their investigations, with efforts underway to apprehend all individuals involved in the fight.
“We are committed to ensuring that the perpetrators of this violent act are brought to justice,” said a police spokesperson. “Our primary goal is to restore peace to the community and prevent further violence during such celebrations.”
