Fury returns to training amid Joshua rumours
Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has returned to training amid growing speculation of a potential mega-fight with fellow British boxer Anthony Joshua, NewsNGR Sports Extra reports.
The ‘Gypsy King’, who announced his surprise retirement earlier this year following consecutive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, has been spotted working the heavy bag in his gym.
Fury’s decision to step away from boxing had previously derailed a lucrative two-fight deal with Joshua, who had openly called out the Manchester-born fighter for what would be one of the biggest bouts in British boxing history.
However, given Fury’s history of short-lived retirements, many boxing experts remained sceptical about his latest withdrawal from the sport, and his recent training footage has only intensified rumours of an imminent comeback.
While sources close to the 36-year-old claim he is content in retirement and currently focused on family life – including personally training his wife Paris – his manager Spencer Brown recently hinted at potential restlessness.
“I spoke to him last week, he’s really happy. Really happy,” Brown said.
“He’s getting a little bit bored but he was really happy. I think he went to a nice birthday party over the weekend and had a few beers. Is he going to fight again? He’s retired. He might be getting a little bit bored at the moment but that’s just a natural thing. He’s just enjoying himself, he’s running every day. He’s really looking good.
“He’s tanned, he’s fit. He looks good. I was quite surprised when I saw him.”
A potential showdown between Fury and Joshua could still materialise in 2025, with Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh reportedly keen to make the long-awaited contest happen. Industry experts suggest such a fight could generate upwards of $225m (£170m) in revenue through broadcasting rights, ticket sales, sponsorships and merchandise.
Joshua, who is currently out of action and has yet to confirm his next fight date, also recently returned to training. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, revealed last month that the British-Nigerian is entering what could be his final year in professional boxing.
“This is the final year. Let’s not beat around the bush,” Hearn told Sky Sports. “He’s going to have somewhere between – it could always be your last fight – but one and three fights, that’s the reality of the situation.”
Hearn identified a potential bout with Fury as one of Joshua’s dream fights before retirement, alongside a rematch with Daniel Dubois, who defeated Joshua via fifth-round knockout at Wembley in September.
