Jigawa PDP stakeholders meet ahead of 2027

The Peoples Democratic Party stakeholders in Jigawa State have started taking steps to strengthen their party’s unity ahead of the 2027 elections in the state.

The stakeholders’ move came to public knowledge when members comprising former councillors and representatives from wards in the Birnin Kudu Local Government Area, held a special meeting to discuss issues affecting the party and how to fortify it at the local and ward levels.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the meeting, held on Saturday at Birnin Kudu, a former councillor from Surko Ward, Birnin Kudu, Ado Nagoda, said the meeting was organised by the Association of Former Councilors of the PDP Birnin Kudu LGA with the aim tp promote unity and cohesion among party members.

According to Nagoda, the meeting consisted of all former councillors, representatives from the eleven wards in the LG and party officials who stated that “we consider it necessary to gathered ourselves here to prevent factionalism within the party.

“We gathered to discuss issues that may strengthen the party at local and ward level.”

“The meeting became necessary to curtail the effort of some members wishing to create faction within the party,” Nagoda added.

Despite recent defections, Nagoda assured all that the PDP’s structure remains intact and urged members to remain loyal to ensure the party’s success in future elections.

“The party still holds its structure intact despite waves of defection at various times,” he said.

Nagoda noted that some party members have been engaging in activities that undermine the party’s unity adding that “Some members lacking in true democracy have been going round political wards to divert the attention of supporters into camps for their personal ambitions.”

Nagoda, however, sajd that “the meeting sought to refocus members on the party’s core ideology, rooted in true democracy, leadership quality, and good governance, as espoused by former Governor Sule Lamido.

He also emphasised the need for members to remain focused on what he called the principles of the party and Lamido, the party’s leader in the state and a national chieftain as well.

“By strengthening our unity, PDP stakeholders in Birnin Kudu are hoping to build a solid foundation for the party’s success in the state and the meeting’s outcome is expected to boost the party’s chances in the 2027 elections by the grace of almighty God,” he added.
