Nigeria’s VP in Senegal as Tinubu Engages in France

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, departed Abuja on Thursday for Dakar, Senegal, where he will represent President Bola Tinubu at the country’s 65th Independence Day anniversary.  

Shettima’s visit comes at the invitation of Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, underscoring the strong diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Senegal.

He is expected to return to Nigeria on Friday, according to a statement from his spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha.

“Senegal marks its Independence Day on April 4 each year, celebrating its liberation from French colonial rule in 1960. The occasion is observed with national pride through ceremonies, parades, and cultural events,” Nkwocha said.

The official celebration will be held at Place de la Nation in Dakar, where President Faye will host Vice President Shettima alongside other dignitaries from across Africa and beyond.

Meanwhile, Shettima’s trip comes just hours after President Tinubu left Nigeria for Paris, France, on Wednesday for what his special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described as a “short working visit.”

According to Onanuga, the trip to Paris will allow Tinubu to review his administration’s progress so far and engage in strategic discussions.
