Oba Owoade crowned 46th Alaafin

Amid tight security, Oba Abimbola Owoade I was, on Saturday, crowned the 46th Alaafin of Oyo.
The Canada-based professional, before he was chosen, succeeds the 45th Alaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, who died on April 22, 2022.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State led dignitaries to honour the new Alaafin.

He was crowned at Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo, amid shouts of ‘Iku Baba Yeye, Oba Abimbola Owoade I, Alase Ekeji Orisa’.
President Bola Tinubu was represented by the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu.
Also present were former deputy governor of Oyo State, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja; Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin; lawmaker representing Oyo South, Senator Yunus Akintunde, and others.

Prominent monarchs included the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye; Oluwo of Iwo, Abdulrasheed Akanbi, Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Saad, and others.
Aare Oona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Abiodun Ige Adams, was also present.
